8217 - Small Group Facilitation for Virtual and In-person Settings
Course Description
Simulating the dynamics of collaborative health care work, small group learning strategies are increasingly used across medical education contexts. This workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to work through cases that demonstrate the essential skills for effectively supporting small group learning. The small group facilitator roles and resources specific to the UME curriculum will also be reviewed.

By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to
- Identify principles of effective small group facilitation applicable to in-person and virtual settings
- Propose solutions to common small group learning challenges
- Plan for the inclusion of small group learning strategies in their courses/sessions
- Define and differentiate UME curriculum small group facilitator roles
- Locate UME Small Group Learning faculty support resources
- Develop an approach to creating engagement in small group sessions
